I was out walking the dog yesterday and was totally brooding about how cold winter is. It’s not that I mind winter, but I hate the layering, the boots, the drippy nose. It’s wonderful to look at, but I’m not a fan of being out in it. I was looking down at Rila and envying her thick black coat. “People were not designed to live in this weather,” I said to myself. “And winter boots are socially awkward.”

Then I started thinking about hibernation. What a deal! You get to gorge yourself all summer on awesome fresh food, then when it starts getting nippy, you just find a nice, warm cave/burrow/hovel/nest and boycott winter by sleeping through it, and LOSING all that weight you packed on!
